A microlight gives you something a normal viewpoint cannot: the whole river system in one glance, with almost nothing between you and the landscape. It is open-air, personal and much more exposed than a helicopter.
What does the flight feel like?
You sit behind the pilot in a small open aircraft. The sensation is closer to flying through the landscape than looking through a window. For some travellers that is the appeal. For others, the exposure is exactly why a helicopter feels more comfortable.
Short flight or longer flight?
The shorter option focuses on Victoria Falls itself and gives you the main aerial perspective. A longer route usually allows more time over the river and gorge.
If you mainly want to say you have seen the Falls from the air, the shorter flight may be enough. If geology, photography and the wider Zambezi setting interest you, the extra time can feel worthwhile.

Can you take your own camera?
Loose items are normally restricted on microlights. The operation may use a mounted camera system with photographs or video available separately. Confirm what is allowed and what media is included before you fly.
What if the weather changes?
Scenic flights are weather-dependent. Wind, visibility and aviation conditions can shift the schedule. Book early in your stay if the flight matters to you, so there is room to move it if necessary.
Who should choose microlight?
It suits adventurous travellers who are comfortable with heights and want an open-air experience. Couples or groups still fly one passenger at a time, so the experience is individual even when booked together.
Choose microlight for exposure and intimacy. Choose helicopter for an enclosed cabin, easier group logistics and a more conventional scenic-flight feel.
Does the season matter?
Yes, but not in a simple “good or bad” way. High water creates extraordinary spray and scale. Lower water reveals more of the gorge and underlying rock. The flight is valuable in both periods because the aerial view explains what you are seeing from the ground.
